Wow, It Hurts To Have A Broken Arm

Have you ever had a broken arm? I have, and they hurt very lot. When I broke my arm I did it by falling back on my arm rollerblading. It hurt  lotbut I only cried for a few seconds. My Dad was watching me when I brock it.  He said it was OK then my mom came home and brought me to the hospital. When I got to the hospital they said it was  broken and we needed to transfer hospitals to The Floating hospital for kids in Boston. We went on an ambulance ride to get to the hospital. It was a fun and cool to ride in the ambulants but I was still a little scared. It was the Monday after we got out of school and I was upset because it was summer and you can’t play much with a broken arm. Now, as of today I have two more digress to have a strait arm. I didn’t like not being able to swim and play soccer but I managed. I guess thought of it as that I would be able to do all the fun things I like to do after I wait. I thought of it as that I would be so existed when I got out of the cast. I am out of the cast now and I can do everything I love to do. What do you thing it would be like to have a broken arm? I know it is not fun but at least I can do everything now.

h1n1/ Swine Flu.

509px-H1N1_influenza_virus

This is not the first time it has been around. In 1976 it first appeared. Some symptoms are coughing ,aches and pains, chills, tiredness, headache, and chest discomfort.   Stuffy nose is not a symptom of swine flu.  Sneezing is not a symptom.   Sore throat is not a symptom of swine flu.  Swine flu is especially dangerous for pregnant women. Diarrhea and vomiting may occur in swine flu for adults and children. In swine flu children symptoms include signs of breathing problems. This can include blue lips and skin, dehydration, fast breathing, long sleep, seizures, and irritability.  The swine flu appears to be hitting ill children harder than the seasonal flu. The children that have died so far is 2/3 had pre -existing conditions such as cerebral palsy, musculardystrophy and developemental delays. Children with nerve and muscle problems maybe high risk for complication. Children without chronic health problems, must beware if they recover and relapse with a high fever. This maybe pneurmonia and needs antibiotics.

Nutrition?

MyPyramid1

Do you want to stay healthy?Well nutrition is VERY good for you! I personally think that nutrition is good for you. All of my other friends think that nutrition is good for you. My friends and I think that nutrition is so good for you that we are all healthy. My uncle gave me some really good tips to stay healthy and so did Mrs. Mark too! Some people might not think that Nutrition is good for you. When some people don’t think nutrition is good they get diabetes. Also if you do not eat healthy it could cause heart disease or cancer. If you want to stay healthy always eat healthy things. For example eat  some salad. You should always keep your family and friends healthy.Nutrition can sometimes also keep you alive for longer . Now that is great to be with your friends and family more! Here are some healthy tips to stay healthy your whole life or most of your life. One tip is to have vitamins everyday or every other day. My second tip is to stay active. To stay active run around alot and play a sport. My third tip is to stretch every morning and or every night. My fourth tip is to drink mostly water. My uncle says if you go to bed at 9:00 then stop eating and drinking at 7:00 and if you have to drink something drink only water. In the morning you should drink orange juice not milk. If you have to have a dairy product like milk or cheese only have a very little bit of milk and barely any cheese. So all I am trying to say is just help your family and friends including yourself healthy.

Get Out and Play!

What’s your idea of fun?  Is it video games, boardgames and watching television because that’s the idea of most kids. Through what should be the idea of fun is playing tag, manhunt , sports, dancing and taking a walk around town. Right now this generations idea of fun is what is now causing many kids to have a very unhealthy weight gain. Video games are alright and all that other technology that is available, but don’t abuse it and that is what we are doing. I was never overweight but I was playing video games for nine hours a day straight and that means if I kept doing that I would soon become overweight. But I was a only child and didn’t have friends that could come over nor did I have a dog.  So I started to jog outside and get a ball and bounce it off a wall but that’s if you have no other way of exercise.  So now what is your idea of fun now?

Sadness In The Snow

Last year about 800 homeless people died in the cold weather. The ones who survived the harsh weather hid in closed doorways of buildings, under cars, and anywhere else they could find. The point of this post is, no matter how many power outages we get, how much snow is piled in front of our house, or how many colds we get, there are people out there who are dying and we’re doing nothing about it. Sure there is that free hotel for homeless people, but at some point that fills up. We’re spending too much time on global warming, which will probably only effect us in hundreds of years, that so many helpless people are dying. I encourage all who read this post to do something to help these people and to not be selfish this winter season.

Does T.V. Make Your Mind Twist?

Mk Fernbedienung.jpg

Are you addicted to TV? Well you might be in trouble. Is TV affecting your grades in school, well you can be making a bad choice your grades or TV. TV is the technology that brings young children’s minds to the test. “How is TV affecting your health”. TV is affecting your health too. Here are some very true accurate results how much an average child spend how much TV they watch and how it affects you!

  • 2 out of 3 infants spend an average of 2 hours a day
  • Any child or children under 6 spends 2 hours watching TV ,DVD’s, and videos and primarily television.
  • 2nd kids and teens 7-18 spend about an average of nearly 4 hours a day or more hours that can be up to 12 hours a day!

That’s very bad for health. You need to get your body up and go out there and exercise! No seriously, TV is all around. We should all start making our TV time a little shorter from now on. Also we should stop watching it so much like the title says “Does T.V. Make Your Mind TwistBraun HF 1.jpg

The Sabertec Blade

Here is an example of a great environmentally friendly product my family has. The Blade is a device that attaches to your tail pipe and reduces emissions of CO2 gasses( the stuff that comes out of cars tail pipes and huts our planet otherwise know as Global Warming) by 12%. So just imagine if everyone put a blade on their car? It also captures toxic particle material. Also you will save hundreds of dollars a year on gas. So why wouldn’t you? The Blade is also the only product to pass the EPA 511 Protocol. Which is a test to evaluate claims to reduce auto mobile exhaust emissions and/ or improve fuel economy. Each and every single product failed to pass the EPA 511 Protocol tests until now. So if every car on the road today put a blade on their car, it would be similar to taking 15.5 million cars off the road. So if you are somebody like me who has athsma, and you know that it probably the worst thing that came into your life, you would want everyone to put a blade on their car because there would not be any more athsma in the air if we did so. So get your parents or Guardians on the computer and show them this website below. When you get to the main screen there will be two options for you to get more information on. One will be the Blade for Diesel trucks and the other will be for the blade. So spread the news because the blade is here!

What Does Christmas Mean To You?

Some people have different ideas of what Christmas is about. Some people think it’s all about presents; some think it’s about being together with family; and, some religions think it’s all about the birth of Christ. I, N. Reed (6th grade), think it is about all of those things except the presents. I honestly wouldn’t care if I woke up in the morning and I didn’t get any presents. All I care is that everyone is happy. Sure the presents are great, but they’re just an addition to the true meaning of Christmas which is giving gifts and being together with your family and friends. It’s sad that some people are blinded by the presents. I was once selfish and opened up my presents before my mom was awake. I have learned from that and now look forward to Christmas all year. I’m not saying to not ask for anything and have a miserable Christmas. Just don’t ask for thousands of dollars of things. Being with family and friends is the true meaning of Christmas.

Human Body Hero’s

“Extra Extra read all about it.” Do you want to know about the most recent six grade project? Then keep reading. Our science teacher assigned us a project on the 3 main types of body systems those three are Digestive, Respiratory, and Circulatory systems. You had two weeks to make a diagram of the system of your choice. The only catch was that the project had to be three dimensional! Let me tell you, boy was it hard.In the project you you had to use parts you usually find around the house like paper towl rolls, cardboard, some even used used plastic! Its definitely a project we won’t forget!

Cool Cooking!

Cooking is very fun. You have to always cook. I love cooking and baking. You need the write materials though. Go step by step when you cook. You usually use some type of pan or bowl. There are different things you can heat up and cook your food with (microwave, stove, oven). Try it sometime, but you should be supervised by an adult if you are young and learning how to cook. I went to a cooking class at Massasoit College and the chef taught 2 groups from different schools to cook from scratch! I wish I still participated in it because I enjoy cooking a lot. Remember, cooking is always helpful!

Had A Hard Fall Before?

any people have fallen off something in their life. It could be off a bike, skateboard, a roof, rock climbing, ladder, boat, surfboard, toy, or stairs. I have fallen off of many things. When I just got my first bike I fell off of it about a millions times till I got the hang of it. I also crashed it into my mom’s car and fell off of it. Falls really hurt because I got plenty of bruises and bleeding cuts. It takes time to learn something so don’t rush it. Millions of people a year get either really hurt, concussions, paralyzed, or die from falling off of items or animals. Here are ways to be safe when doing these activities. Always wear a helmet for activities that require it. Helmets protect your head. Types of fibers used to make some helmets are Aramid and Twaron. A bike helmet is made up of resin or plastic. Don’t rush yourself. Be careful. Pay attention to what you are doing. Make sure an adult watches you. Wear safety gear. Think ahead to what might happen.

So you fall of a bike it’s not that bad. Imagine falling of a tall horse. I have fallen off a very tall horse named Patches. It made it even worse because it was at a horse show during my trail ride. I ride at Dorbill stables. I ride every Sunday at 2:00. I fell off on September 20, 2008. It was a cool morning which made them feisty. Something in the tree scared him just before we went around the tires. He did a little canter and turned very sharp. I fell off the side of him. I landed on my side. It hurt for a minute then it went away. I was in shock for a minute. I got back on and finished the course. I got last place. I was happy that I did not get seriously hurt. I had a helmet on. People can get really hurt by riding horses. People can get stepped on, get concussions, paralyzed, or can die. My friend Kayla rides horses too. She has fallen about 21 times. She rarely gets hurt. Someone at the last show fell off and got stepped on. The ambulance had to come to check her out. That is why you should wear a helmet!

Help The Homeless

Help the homeless is a project that fifth graders are doing. They do not have to do this but it’s a great idea. Help The Homeless is helping Farther Bill’s shelter. The Hospital Good Samaritan is running it for them. The fifth grade can donate blankets, towels, and sheets to Farther Bill’s. Do you think this is a great idea, yes or no? But in my opinion, I do think it’s a great idea. It ends this Friday. I think it’s a great idea because your helping others in need and that is the great thing about it. You know that someone has a nice bath towel, a warm cozy blanket to sleep in, and  sheets on the warm cozy bed that they can sleep in. So if you think it’s a great idea or not, write about it. We should help others in need. You can feel happy about it because you did something very nice to help others.

I Love Vitamins!

A long time ago when I was in Grade 4 I remember having a discussion with a class friend. The topic of this discussion was vitamins. He could not understand why I liked them so much. It seemed obvious to me. That if you did everything you could to be good to your body and yourself, things would go your way. Looking back, I think I was rather intelligent. I drink lots of water, eat fruit and vegetables and consume more whole grain foods then anybody I know! I think that, in life, you have to do everything you possibly can to be healthy and happy. And, that it isn’t just one thing that you can do. It’s many many little things that all add up to something great.

Some thoughts about RICE

I was sitting reading the Saturday newspaper when I came across a children’s cartoon which was all about rice.

This prompted me to think about freerice.com.

How much do we know about the grain called rice?

First of all, one fact I couldn’t find information on, was how many grains of rice would we need to make ONE meal?

I did find these facts however:

  1. A rice plant grows best when it’s roots are submerged in water.
  2. More then 600 trillion kilograms of rice are harvested world wide, a year. How many pounds is that?
  3. Unlike other grains, rice is generally consumer in the country that it is produced.
  4. Untamed rice that is found in the jungle is called “wild rice”.
  5. Rice has been grown and consumed for more then 6,000 years!

How much radiation does your cell phone emit?

Are you thinking about getting a cell phone? Maybe as a birthday present? Well, before you start selecting which brand, model and color, there are a couple of things you need to know about how cell phones can effect your health.

Cell phones emit electromagentic radiation in the microwave spectrum. Now, think to yourself how close this electronic device is to your ear canal, and more importantly your brain. Could this be a problem?

The following links are provided so over the years ahead you can make informed decisions. Cell phone radiation is measured using the scientific value SAR (specific absorption rate). Very simply, the objective is to have the lowest SAR value possible. The lower SAR value your cell phone has, the less electromagnetic radiation it will produce.
