Hatchet is a book written by Gary Paulsen. Author of Dancing Carl and Dog Song. This book is about this 13 year old boy named Brian Robeson. Brian in this story is off to his fathers house in Canada in the beginning of the book. But on the way the pilot has a heart attack. Soon after, that Brian is panicking trying to find a way to stop the plane. So then, he decides to actually LAND the plane by letting it run out of gas first, because personally he doesn’t know how to steer a plane. After the gas runs out, the plane rapidly crashes into the Canadian Wilderness, Brian the realizes this by noticing trees down below. The plane then lands into a lake safely, and Brian eagerly tries to find a way out by struggling to break the dashboard glass of the plane open. But the water is pressing up against the windows, literally trapping Brian inside the plane under water. Brian then gazes at his hatchet (an axe and/or woodcutting tool), that his Mom gave him before the plane ride, for safety with his father in Canada. Trying and trying Brian eventually thinks of a way. He then shatters one of the rear windows with his hatchet and escapes. Finally. Finally. Finally. Brian thinks but, no. No. No. No. What was he to do now? The dead pilot in the plane, no one with him. Nothing to be heard. No food to eat. No sounds to hear. Complete silence rang through his ear. What now? He thought. As he was watching the plane in the lake, Brian sadly sat down against a tree, and fell asleep. In his head questions where running around, asking him different things. Why me? Why did this happen?
